Suzanne Opton, a self taught photographer, is the recipient of a 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship as well as grants from the NEA, NYFA and the Vermont Council on the Arts. Her work lives on the edge between documentary and conceptual. The Soldier Billboard Project presented portraits of American soldiers on billboards and in subway stations in eight cities in 2008-2010. The book Soldier / Many Wars is published 2011 by Decode Books.  Opton’s work is in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum; Cleveland Museum; Library of Congress; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Portland Museum of Art and the Nelson-Atkins Museum among others. Opton grew up in Oregon, now lives in New York City and Vermont. She teaches at the International Center of Photography.
